The 12 SimpleSteps to Recovery
1. Replace my addiction with a relationship with Christ.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
2. I can never be too dirty for God.
John 10:28 - And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
3. My addiction is a symptom of my sin nature.
Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
4. Trust what God tells me is true.
John 8:32 - And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
5. God wants a relationship with me even when I make mistakes.
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
6. Align my thinking with God’s ways.
Romans 12:1-2 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Philippians 4:9 - Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
7. I am fighting a real spiritual battle every day.
1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
8. I am accountable to God for my decisions.
Galatians 6:7-9 - Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Romans 14:12 - So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
9. Allow God to direct my path.
Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
10. Following God will help me to overcome my addiction.
1 Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
11. Leave my past behind me and lean on God for the future.
Philippians 3:13-14 - Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 24:16 - For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Psalm 37:23-24 - The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.
12. I will be influenced by those around me.
1 Corinthians 15:33 - Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
